Bottle Brawl With Battling Baby

Bottle Brawl With Battling Baby

Sisu In Action

I am currently in the midst of an epic battle to get my infant daughter to take the bottle. Her determination to outlast or defeat me in this battle is nothing short of awe-inspiring. You can actually see that she is truly tempted, because she'll make an attempt to latch on to the bottle for a few seconds at a time, gulping hungrily. Then one of her two little hands will lash out in rage, knocking the bottle away from her face as she begins to scream out her defiance yet again.

This is naturally exhausting for her, as well as for me. I almost suspect that the reason she is sometimes willing to take the bottle for a short time is purely so that she can refuel and re-energize in order to renew the fight. She's like a guerilla band raiding an army outpost to steal arms and supplies.

Why am I putting so much effort into getting her to take the bottle? I don't really have a choice. I need her to take the bottle because otherwise I can't feed her, during all the long hours when my wife is away at work. In just a couple of months, my wife is going to be gone at school for a whole week, and I just don't have any option but to overcome the bottle issue before that happens. My daughter is blessed with an abundance of “sisu,” the Finnish national characteristic of heroic stubbornness, otherwise I would have succeeded long before now. It's her sisu against mine, and only time will tell who the victor shall be!
