Job Outlook Map
CNN again has made it easier for job searchers. Wondering what areas are hiring employees in your specific job field? Or maybe you are thinking about moving but want to make sure that what you do is in demand. Now you can even use CNN's map search tools to find out what jobs are hot if you are thinking about moving on into a new career path. Right now some states are worse than others as far as unemployment goes and CNN has been keeping track of it all to keep job searchers in the now. The site is updated anytime they get new information to make sure that you are on the right track.
Get started and direct your browser to CNN's Job Page and Track The Economy. View each state's details concerning unemployment, jobs by industry and even foreclosures. On the map each state is color coated in different variations of red. The darker the red, the higher the unemployment rate is. Sadly, most states are currently posted in very bold red with Michigan at a 10.6% unemployment rate. Don't let this discourage your job search though even if you are in one of the states that seem to be very bad off. Keep in mind that just because the unemployment rate is running high, doesn't necessarily mean that your career skills aren't in need.
This is where the Jobs by Industry tab on the map goes to work for you. It is simple to use and straight to the point. Not only will you find if your state is looking for your skills, but every state on the map will have results. All you have to do is move your mouse over the state to get their stats. So if your state isn't in high demand for your skills, your neighboring state might. Choose an industry or select all industries to get a general overview of what yours and other states have to offer. This option will allow you to see just how many jobs are out there total for the whole state regardless of specific industry.
When looking into Education and Health Services, there has actually been an increase of job need across the board. Nationally, this industry has gone up 5.6% since January. Government jobs have increased as well. Not nearly as much as education and healthcare but still is up at 1.9% since January. The bad news seems to fall for those working in retail trade and manufacturing. Both jobs are plummeting nearly everywhere. Manufacturing is down 7.9% and retail is down 2.6% since January.
Again, keep in mind that there are jobs out there and the overall view on the map proves it. Not everyone is getting pink slips and losing their houses because there are jobs out there that are doing well and running strong. Use all the tools that you can find to help you figure out the path you need to take to get yourself the job security you and your family needs in these struggling times.
